Restylane®
Restylane® is an FDA-approved gel that is injected into the skin, adding volume to the lips and filling wrinkles and folds in the skin. Restylane® is a non-animal based substance, making it a safe alternative for those patients allergic to collagen. Results from Restylane® are apparent almost immediately and typically last much longer than collagen.

What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

What is Restylane® made of?
Restylane® is the first cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is natural substance that already exists in the human body and is use to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is a crystal clear gel called NASHA, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and fully biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.

How long does Restylane® last?
Restylane® is proven to deliver long-lasting results. Studies have shown that Restylane® effects generally last for about six months. Restylane’s® stabilization technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone.

Is Restylane® safe?
Yes. Restylane® has been used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. There is limited risk of animal-based transmission or allergic reaction. Restylane® is fully biocompatible and allergy testing is not required. Restylane® contains trace amounts of gram-positive bacterial proteins and should not be use by patients with a history of allergies to such material. After your treatment, you might have some redness or swelling. This will normally last less than seven days. Sunbathing and cold outdoor activities should be avoided until any redness or swelling disappear. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you shouldn’t use Restylane®.

Can Restylane® be used anywhere on the face?
Restylane® has been used in more than 3 million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles. In the U.S. the FDA has approved Restylane for wrinkles and folds like the ones from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Your doctor will consult with you prior to your injection regarding common treatment areas.

How is Restylane® different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Restylane® is a natural, cosmetic filler. In contrast, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.

What areas can be treated?
We can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. We can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line.

What do laser treatments feel like?
Our handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, however some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.

How many treatments will I need?
Most areas require 3-6 treatments, but the number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hair’s thickness, the area treated, and your hair’s growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Our systems work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment, and are not regrowing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
Following the treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away. However, since some redness may occur, you may want to plan your work or social engagements accordingly. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure. In addition, your physician may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regimen especially formulated for your skin type.

What are the possible side effects?
Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

How do lasers compare with other hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a frequent basis. Our lasers offer permanent hair reduction for lasting results.

How do lasers compare with Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, lasers effectively treat an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.

What is diffuse redness?

The most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead, and cheeks. Diffuse redness is often associated with a condition called rosacea and it can be hereditary. What does the procedure feel like?
Patients often describe the treatment as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure as the laser handpiece is moved back and forth about 1/2 inch above your skin. You can expect to immediately return to normal activities, utilizing sunscreen if participating in outdoor activities.

How does laser skin rejuvenation work?
By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, laser skin rejuvenation stimulates collagen regrowth.

What can I expect before the treatment?
You will not need to apply any gel, anesthetic cream or ice prior to treatment. Before the actual laser skin rejuvenation treatment, you will be asked to remove your makeup or moisturizers and, in some cases, you may be asked to shave the area to be treated so as not to interfere with the laser therapy. Your physician will review and assist with all pre-treatment requirements.

We treat a broad range of vessels from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins quickly, safely, and effectively. Patients with dark, light, or tanned skin can experience outstanding results without bruising or blistering. 

How does Vein Therapy work?
Our laser system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be. 

Who can be treated?
Our laser system features a unique design and long wavelength that allow them to treat patients of all skin tones. We will advise you if vein therapy is right for you.

What types of veins can be treated?
We can remove unsightly veins from all parts of the body. Small, facial veins (or telangiectasia) can be treated quickly without bruising or complication. Spider veins and large blue leg veins can also be treated with excellent results. Knotty varicose veins are not good candidates. A careful evaluation will help you determine which vessels can be treated and the best course of treatment. 

How does this compare to Sclerotherapy?
Many patients prefer vein therapy because there are no painful injections. 

What about blood blisters and port wine stains?
Blood blisters or “hemangiomas” respond very well to vein therapy, usually with just one treatment. Patients with port wine stains and other vascular lesions who had given up on finding a solution have been overwhelmed by the success of their vascular treatments. 

How many treatments do I need?
Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated. Since individual results vary, ask your medical professional about your specific condition.

Do the treatments hurt?
Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, many patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.

What happens after the treatment?
Following your treatment, some redness or bruising may occur. When larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months following treatment. Patients who have leg vein treatments may be advised to wear support hose for a short period of time.

What are the possible side effects?
Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. These effects typically last for less than 24 hours. Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
Patients generally resume most normal activities immediately. However, it is recommended that you avoid vigorous activities such as strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.

When will I see results?
Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months. Over time, it is possible for new veins to appear, but these too can be removed with our laser system.

What is the LimeLight Facial?
The LimeLight Facial is a new, non-invasive approach to skin rejuvenation using Cutera’s LimeLight. The procedure offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging and photodamage. 

What areas can be treated?
The LimeLight Facial is ideal for any part of your face, neck and décolleté with skin redness, telangiectasia (tiny veins), or brown spots. Light (low contrast) brown spots, which were previously difficult to resolve, respond very well to treatment. 

What does the treatment do?
By selecting Program A, B or C, your practitioner can customize your LimeLight Facial to your skin type and selectively treat the brown and/or red pigmented areas on your skin. It is the heating of the pigmented brown or red cells that causes the therapeutic effect. 

What do treatments feel like?
When the pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Gel is recommended to cool the skin before vascular treatments. Anesthesia or pain medicine is typically not required.

How long will the treatments take?
Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. However, most treatments should take less than one hour.

When will I see results?
Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffuse redness or telangiectasia will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve. 

Will the spots and redness reappear over time?
New brown spots, telangiectasia, and diffuse redness may appear with new sun damage. However, they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage and the appearance of new spots and diffuse redness. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light source. However, its appearance can be improved.
